Susan Topping
Senior Director of Food, Policy and Impact at Capital Area Food Bank
Susan started her career working with American college students studying abroad in Kochi, India, to build their intercultural competencies, including communication, host family acclimation, and student travel. Over the past 18 years, her career has shifted to focus on community and centered on sustainable food growing projects, nutrition, and food system education. At the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB), Susan’s roles have spanned managing a network of 450 food assistance partners to creating capacity building initiatives to spur targeted food security. As the senior director of food, policy and impact, she oversees the nutrition education and nutrition policy of the CAFB and focuses on developing strategic partnerships with health care and workforce development institutions to address the root causes of hunger.
