The AAMC submitted comments to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) on Nov. 19 in response to the institute’s request for information to advise on a potential new funding initiative to inform the science of engagement.
In its comments, the AAMC lauded PCORI’s commitment to advancing effective engagement. As PCORI looks to develop the proposed initiative, the AAMC has encouraged the institute to prioritize partnerships, stakeholder engagement, community collaborations, and trust-building throughout the research process. The AAMC recommended that engagement should be conducted in a culturally appropriate manner, and the proposed funding initiative should promote connections and collaborations between organizations, communities, and researchers.
The comments also noted that the proposed new initiatives should align with PCORI’s National Priorities for Health, its research agenda, and other federal health agencies’ engagement initiatives.
