AAMC Joins Letter in Support of Inclusion of People with Disabilities

The AAMC Center for Health Justice recently signed onto a letter to Health and Human Services Sec. Becerra to express strong reservations about the recent recommendation of the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Advisory Committee to not designate people with disabilities as a “health disparity population.” This inaction is not consistent with the Administration’s commitment to people with disabilities; disrupts current NIH Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) efforts; fails to consider current models and theories of disability; and does not include the perspectives of people with disabilities.
